A short list, well kept.

Medicare 101

The four parts of Medicare, in plain English.

Medicare is divided into four parts - A, B, C, and D. Knowing what each one does (and doesn't) is the first step to choosing coverage that actually fits.

A

Part A - Hospital Insurance

Covers inpatient hospital stays, skilled nursing facility care, hospice, and limited home health services.

Most people pay no premium for Part A if they (or a spouse) paid Medicare taxes for at least 10 years.

B

Part B - Medical Insurance

Covers doctor visits, outpatient care, preventive services, lab tests, and durable medical equipment.

Part B has a monthly premium and a yearly deductible - most beneficiaries also pay 20% coinsurance.

C

Part C - Medicare Advantage

A private alternative that bundles Parts A and B - and usually Part D - often with extra dental, vision, or fitness benefits.

Plans use networks (HMO/PPO) and have their own copays. Great for some, wrong fit for others.

D

Part D - Prescription Drug Coverage

Standalone drug plans that work alongside Original Medicare and Medigap to cover your prescriptions.

Formularies and pricing change every January - we re-check yours each fall, on your behalf.

Still unsure which combination fits you? A 20-minute conversation usually settles it. There's never a fee.
